Crowd Light Show (CrowdLight)

Audience phones light up in sync with the show, and the stands become a giant screen.

Brings the light show to the audience's phones: the screen and, with permission, the flashlight light up in time with the show. Each phone becomes a pixel of a giant screen in the stands, based on its seat. Choose an internet or offline setup and drive it from your light desk.

Seat map simulation

Each dot is a phone in a seat. The animation is drawn in your browser; in a real show the effect comes from the panel or the light desk.

What attendees see

Attendee address: superevent.io/e/K7M2QX/crowdlight

  • The phone screen lights up with the rest of the audience, following the show's scene, color and rhythm.
  • The seat comes from the ticket import, a seat QR code or picking it on the map; in standing areas the attendee picks a section.
  • With permission, the phone's flashlight joins the show too.
  • Joins in internet mode from the browser; uses the app for the offline BLE broadcast.
  • Turns fast transitions into a steady color on their own phone with "Turn off bright effects".

What organizers do

Organizer panel: superevent.io/app/…/crowdlight

  • Draw the venue map with seated sections, rows and seats and standing areas.
  • Design the show scene by scene and preview it live on the venue.
  • Pick the scene, brightness and color from the live console, with one-key blackout.
  • Connect the controller software to the event with a control token.
  • In a BLE setup, monitor the health of the transmitters.

How it works

  1. Step 1: Draw the venue

Define sections, rows and seats; import seat assignments from tickets or print seat QR codes.

  2. Step 2: Design the show

Prepare scenes and effects; the show package downloads to phones before the show.

  3. Step 3: Run it live

Trigger scenes from the panel, the controller software or the light desk; every phone changes at the same moment.

How the light show is set up

Two transports
Socket: the signal comes from the Superevent server over the internet; it needs mobile data or venue Wi-Fi and also works in the browser. BLE: the signal comes from Ethernet + PoE transmitters in the venue as a Bluetooth broadcast, with no internet needed. Both can run together (hybrid). The transport is chosen per event.
Seat-based pixel mapping
No per-person color is sent to phones. Everyone receives the same small signed state packet: which scene, when it started, brightness, color. Each phone computes its color from the show package downloaded in advance and its own seat coordinate, so the stands draw an image like a single screen.
Offline BLE broadcast
The controller software sends the state over UDP on the local network to ESP32 transmitters on a PoE switch, which broadcast it as Bluetooth advertising. The app listens to this broadcast; browsers cannot scan BLE, so web attendees join in socket mode only.
Control from the light desk
The controller listens to Art-Net or sACN; consoles such as grandMA3 drive 8 channels as a single fixture: scene, brightness, color, parameter, flags, zone. The Superevent panel and the controller's local interface can drive it too; the last writer wins. Blackout is one key everywhere.
Photosensitivity safety
The screen never makes more than 3 bright–dark transitions per second (WCAG 2.3.1); fast effects are clipped to this limit. The flashlight blinks only with permission and at 2 Hz at most. Attendees can lower the limit further on their own phone with "Turn off bright effects". One-key blackout for emergencies.
Transmitter hardware
For a BLE setup, the suggested transmitter is an ESP32 board with Ethernet and PoE, connected to a PoE switch. The exact model and the number of transmitters for a venue are decided with a site trial.

KVKK and data retention

Seat assignments are kept for 30 days after the event ends. Show packages contain no personal data. Location is never estimated by GPS or Bluetooth; the seat comes from the ticket, a seat QR code or the attendee's own choice.

Frequently asked questions

Does the audience need to install an app?

Not in socket mode; they join from the browser. In offline BLE mode the app is needed so the phone can listen to the Bluetooth broadcast.

Can the show run without internet at the venue?

Yes, in BLE mode. The show package downloads to phones in advance; during the show the signal comes over Bluetooth from transmitters on the local network.

Why is the price set by quote?

The price depends on the venue, the audience size and, for a BLE setup, the transmitter hardware (sale or rental, installation). That is why each event gets its own quote.

What about audience members with photosensitive epilepsy?

Effects are limited to at most 3 bright–dark transitions per second (WCAG 2.3.1). Attendees can turn fast transitions into a steady color on their own phone with "Turn off bright effects"; the flashlight is used only with permission.
